Gulf Times

In the presence of the playful Falah the Falcon, the mascot for the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, Ooredoo announced its national partnership for the event, which will attract thousands of athletes from across the world to the Qatari capital come September.

The IAAF World Athletics Championships will be the biggest athletics event to take place in the Middle East when over 2,000 of the world’s best athletes compete in the Khalifa International Stadium for the ten-day event, which will run from September 27-October 6.

“There are just few weeks that are left for the event and not years and many months,” Doha 2019 Organising Committee vice-chairman and director general Dahlan al-Hamad said on the sidelines of an event announcing the partnership with Ooredoo.

He added: “Sport is about connecting people and bringing everybody together, sharing their love for the game. The IAAF World Athletics Championships will see more communities come together than ever before in Doha, which is an exciting milestone.

“As a specialist in communications, it is the perfect collaboration to have Ooredoo as a partner for the competition, telling the story of athletics to more people, connecting fans directly to the championships this September.”

Speaking about the partnership, Ooredoo Qatar CEO Waleed al-Sayed said, “We’re very excited to be supporting this major sporting event and contributing to its success by enhancing spectators’ experience and providing world class technology that will ensure everyone at the stadium stays connected and enjoys the internet. We recognise how important this event is, and are very happy to be working with the IAAF to bring such a world-renowned tournament to Doha. We’re looking forward to some incredible athletics and a successful event for all involved.”

Al-Hamad said the championship will feature more than 3,500 athletes, coaches and officials, more than 2,000 media professionals and thousands of fans from all over the world, making it one of the biggest sporting events in the region.

He added that Ooredoo will participate using its resources and services to welcome the world of athletics and its fans in Doha at the Khalifa International Stadium, in addition to helping to make tournament tickets available to the public through the points of sale available in their branches throughout the country.

He stressed the important role played by telecommunications in organising sporting events by supporting various digital and logistical services, which makes Ooredoo a pivotal partner of the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019. He stressed that the work with the company will be intensified to organise an exceptional version of the championship, to offer a new sports experience to all fans and supporters. “We thank them for their support, it is not just for these championships, but also for the other events they are doing in Qatar,” al-Hamad said.

Talking about the preparations ahead of the event, he said, “We are going according to the schedule, and everything is in place. We have the IAAF delegation here and we are taking them around for site visits, even though we have been working with them on a daily basis through the internet. But they are here for the final preparation, and will stay here for a few days before we put in the finishing touches. But I can confirm that we are going the right way. I think people in Qatar are enthusiastic for these World Championships. And that is good. They are working with us and are supporting us.”
