QNB STARS LEAGUE: AL-SADD CRUSH AL-RAYYAN IN ‘QATAR CLASICO’

Doha, Qatar- Al-Sadd beat Al-Rayyan 5-0 in ‘Qatar Clasico’ at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium to strengthen their position at the top of the of the QNB Stars League leaderboard, here on Saturday.

The opening goal of the match day 6 was scored after Hamed Ismail’s long cross was met by Algerian striker Bghadad Bounejah in the 11th minute. Goalkeeper Omar Barry charged out only for Bounejah to chip the ball in with a header.

In the 31st minute, Al-Sadd defender Abdelkarim Hassan scored his first goal of the season off a clever pass from Jung Woo-young. The incisive attempt from the left side left Al-Rayyan goalkeeper Omar Barry helpless.

 

With a commanding lead of 2-0, Al-Sadd started off with a blitz. A neat pass by Bounejah in the 59th minute saw Akram Afif run clear of the defenders and a chip the ball into the nets to register his seventh goal, this season.

 

Al-Rayyan earned many chances with likes of Seabastian Soria and Rodrigo Tabata coming to the fore, but none of them were clinical enough to do any damage. Besides, Al-Sadd goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham stood tall in the face of all the opposition attacks.

 

In the 70th minute, Bounejah scored his 13th goal of the season to continue his reign as the top scorer of the QNB Stars League. A Xavi free-kick was followed up by a powerful header from Bounejah and Al-Sadd went 4-0 up.

South Korean star Jung Woo-young made it 5, with his first goal for the club after a curling shot from the edge of the penalty box.

 

Al-Sadd reclaimed the top slot and so also the spoils of the ‘Qatar Clasico’ game with 13 points. Unfortunately for the Al-Rayyan fans, the loss saw them go down to 5th position with 11 points. They had started the game at the top of the QNB Stars League.
