Leicester, England- Qatari boxer Fahad Thani, currently enjoying a nine-fight win streak, is likely to step into the ring next February. The 31-year-old, who is in England for a short break from training, announced on Sunday: “My next fight would be mid-Feb but no date has been confirmed.”

At the end of October, Fahad extended his winning streak to nine bouts following a victory over Romania’s Dumitru Nicu Manea in Leon. Fahad, who beat Adrian Parlogea in September, completed his win with a quick left uppercut that left the Romanian shaky in the next few minutes. In his brief yet impressive pro career since 2016, Fahad has taken to the ring against Gheorghe Ghiompiric (twice), Adrian Parlogea (thrice), Marius Racaru, Ionut Bogheanu and Bela Sandor before his fight against Manea.

“Yes you can have back to back fights,” Fahad said when asked if he could take so many fights in such a short window.

“I want to fight more and more as it’s experience building my image and putting Qatar’s name in the world of professional boxing,” Fahad said after his win over Dumitru.

Fahad said he was initially scheduled to fight another fighter but had to settle for a match against Dumitru, the super middleweight boxer. “It was a sudden change of opponent for me as my original one Gorge could not make his medicals on time,” Fahad said.
“It was my ninth professional win. I am very pleased with my show,” he said.

“I won the first two rounds in a very good and fast pace,” Fahad said. “I showed great improvement in movement and combinations. In the third round, he came strong but broke his hand hitting my inner elbow. And I caught him with an left uppercut.

“He retired in the 4th round after trying to rally but I weathered his final attacks for him to quit in the corner,” Fahad said.

“The last fight was a better win for me since the last minute change (in opponent) took me off my game as I was preparing for a shorter guy,” he added. “But I fought a taller and heavier guy that actually came to knock me out but my condition and listening to Isamel Salas’ instructions gave me the edge in the ring,” Fahad said.

Fahad said, in Leicester City, he met with Danny ‘the Hurricane’ Higgins, Britain’s wheelchair boxing star.

“I was greatly inspired by his strong will and his steely determination showed me that there is nothing impossible,” Fahad said of Danny. “Meeting him showed me that boxing has such positive impact on people. Boxing helps build confidence and teaches you discipline,” Fahad said.

The Adaptive Boxing Program helps people who have suffered serious injuries or battle life changing medical conditions. Higgins, himself an adaptive boxer, is based in Leicester.
