The ceremony to decide the pairings for the second-round matches and the semi-finals of this year’s FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2019 will take place at Fifa headquarters in Zurich on September 16, the game’s governing body has announced.

The FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2019 will run from 11 to 21 December.

As the current champions of the Qatar Stars League, Al Sadd SC have already qualified and, as it stands, they will play the opening match against Hienghène Sport on 11 December.

However, if they win the ongoing AFC Champions League, the team coached by Xavi Hernández will advance straight to the second round of the FIFA Club World Cup, with the AFC Champions League runners-up then playing the opening match instead.

Once again football legend and Liverpool icon Michael Owen will help to determine the fate of The Reds – as well as that of the other six teams in the running for this year’s FIFA Club World Cup title – by lending a hand as an assistant in the competition’s draw.

“There is so much excitement ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup this year – from Liverpool fans, of course, as they will be hoping that their team can win this coveted trophy for the first time,” said Owen, in a report on the Fifa.com website.

“But the tournament in Qatar means a lot to the other teams as well – it is the global stage for club football, and it will also be the FIFA World Cup stage in three years’ time. Every single player will want to shine, and I’m delighted to be helping to draw the path to the final.”

The stadiums hosting the tournament, as well as the kick-off times, will be announced in due course and followed by the relevant ticketing information on FIFA.com/tickets.

Live video coverage of the ceremony will be broadcast on FIFA.com.
