IWF PRESIDENT PRAISES GROWTH OF QATAR CUP

Doha, Qatar - President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Tamas Ajan has praised the great development of the International Qatar Cup year after year, adding that the fifth edition of the championship this year saw a significant increase in the number of participating weightlifters.

Talking to the press, Ajan said that the Qatar Cup contributes to the development of weightlifting sport in the world, in light of the possibilities and elements of success available for the participants from different part of the world, pointing to the tremendous development witnessed by Qatar in all walks of life, particularly in the organisation and hosting of sporting events.

The IWF President said that Qatar championship became the second leg in qualifying for the Olympics, as the international championship in Turkmenistan is the first leg.

The third leg is Fajr international tournament in Iran, while the fourth is the China international championship, the fifth is the world men’s championship in Thailand, and the last is the Kazakhstan international championship.

Ajan said that the weightlifter, who wins a colorful medal in three international championships, could qualify directly for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.

He thanked Mohammad Yousef Al Mana, President of Qatar Weightlifting Federation, President of the Arab and Asian weightlifting federations and Vice-President of the IWF, for his great efforts to promote the level of the game and develop it at all levels, whether globally, regionally or at Arab level.
