Triple Olympic sprint medallist Andre De Grasse and decathlete Damian Warner headline a 49-member Canadian team for next month’s World Shampionships, Athletics Canada announced on Friday.

De Grasse, who will compete in the 100 and 200 and 4x100 metres relay, won medals in all three events at the 2016 Rio Olympics, taking silver in the 200m and bronze in the 100m and 4x100m relay.

Warner was the Olympic bronze medallist and has the year’s leading score of 8,711 points. He is expected to be French world record holder Kevin Mayer’s biggest challenger as the September 27 to October 6 championships in Doha.

Top Canadian women include pole vaulter Alysha Newman and 1,500m runner Gabriela DeBues-Stafford.

Meanwhile, Gambia’s Gina Bass upset defending champion Marie Josée Ta Lou in the 200m at the 12th African Games in Rabat on Friday.

The Gambian national record holder finished second to the Ivorian in the 100m where she sped to a new record of 11.13, 0.04 behind Ta Lou.

However, in the 200m, Ta Lou knew she had a fight on her hands and was quick out of the blocks, dominating for the first 100 metres of the race.

However, with 50 metres to go, Bass eased past the World Championships silver medallist to cross the line first in a new national record of 22.58
