Despite a hard-fought battle, Qatar's beach volleyball team, consisting of Sultan Al-Alawi and Mubaraka Al Naimi, lost 2-0 to Japanese Naoaki Yamamoto and Erina Otsuka in the opening match of the mixed doubles at Katara Beach.
Yamamoto and Otsuka dominated the match, winning the first set 6-0, and the second set 6-1.
Japan will now progress to the Round of 16.
