Caitlin Dillon

On day three of the ANOC World Beach Games, nine finals took place, with nine gold medals handed out to participants from around the world. The games began at six o clock this morning at Katara Beach, as the men’s and women’s aquathlon got underway. The men’s saw two members of team Qatar competing, however it was an all-spanish affair at the medal ceremony. Spain’s Kevin Viñeula claimed the men’s gold medal, as his countrywoman Francisca Tous claimed the women’s.

Following this, at Leqtaifiya Lagoon, four different waterski finals took place – for the men’s and women’s jump competition, and wakeboarding. Aliaksandra Danisheuskaya of Belarus placed first in the Women’s Jump Waterski Final, as Vladimir Ryanzin of Russia placed first in the men’s.

Dutch Sanne Meijker won the women’s wakeboard category, and Massimiliano Piffaretti of Italy won the men’s.

This evening, the women’s bouldering final began at Aspire. 22-year-old Miho Nonaka of Japan claimed gold.

At seven pm, Qatar’s 4x4 beach volleyball team continued their unbeaten run as they took on Chile in the quarterfinals, beating them two sets to none, and progressed to tomorrow’s semi-finals, where they will face Poland.

In the men’s beach handball quarterfinals, Qatar took on Australia, where they, too, remained unbeaten, winning their sixth consecutive match, as they beat Australia 2-0, progressing to tomorrow’s semi-finals.

Back at Aspire, this time in the men’s bouldering final, Japan took gold once again.

And, in the night’s ultimate final - the women’s skateboarding, the competition’s 17-year old favorite, set to compete in Tokyo next year, claimed gold
