The 14th Asian Shooting Championship Kicks Off in Doha

The competitions of the 14th edition of Asian Shooting Championship 2019 got underway at the Losail Shooting Range in Doha on Monday.

HE Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani, First Vice - President of  Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC),  Mr. Duaij Al- Otaibi, Secretary-General of Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC) and Mr. Ali Mohammed Al Kawari, President of Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation attended the event's opening ceremony.

A total of 38 Olympic quota places will be up for grabs in the continental tournament in Qatar organised by Qatar Shooting and Archery Association. The top three finishers in each of the shotgun, rifle and pistol events of the tournament will gain quota places or outright qualification to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

London Olympics bronze medallist Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah and Rashid Saleh Al Athba will lead Qatar's challenge at the 14th Asian Shooting Championships.

In the men's Double Trap event, Hamad al Akhan al-Marri, who won gold in September at the 9th Asian Shotgun Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, will aim for an encore. Another trap shooter Mohamed Ahmed al-Rumaihi, who received a shot in the arm with his bronze medal at Austria Open in August at Vienna meet, will be keen to prove a point or two at the Asian event.

The championship is bringing together 1000 shooters from 32 countries including 135 shooters from the host nation who will compete in different classes from 4-14 November at Losail Shooting Range.
