Qatar Youth
Handball team beat Syria 29/24 on Monday in the penultimate round of the third
group of the Asian Men's Youth (U-18) Handball Championship 2018, in Amman,
Jordan.
Qatar were
the better team since the beginning of the game and won the first half 13/11.
The Qatari
team will take on Oman in the final round of the group stage.
Qatar
Handball Association secretary-general Mohamed Jaber Al Mulla revealed his
satisfaction with the results the Qatar youth team achieved in the Asian
tournament. He added that the youth team had a short preparation period, and that
most of the team members are from the junior national team due to the absence
of the youth players because of their studies.
Al Mulla
said that Qatar played very good matches in the first round of the tournament
after drawing with Japan, who qualified for the World Cup, as well as with the
Iranian team, adding that despite the toughness of the group, the Qatari team
was very close to qualification and finished in third place on goal difference.
He pointed
out that Qatar would have qualified for the second round if the team had played
in any other group.
