Arabian Gulf Cup: Yemen vs Qatar - Preview

Matchday two of the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup will see two Group A clashes at Khalifa International Stadium, with the UAE taking on Iraq at 5:30pm before Yemen take on hosts Qatar at 8:00pm.

With both sides failing to pick up a point in their opening matches, Qatar and Yemen will each be looking to walk away from tonight’s game with all three points.

In Qatar’s opening match against Iraq, the home side created numerous opportunities, but were unlucky when it came to the final 2-1 result. Following the match, Iraq’s Head Coach, Srecko Katanec, stated, “Football is like this, Qatar was better than us but they did not score goals and we scored.”

Yemen struggled to find their feet throughout their opening game, which ended in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the UAE.

Yemen have never beaten Qatar in a Gulf Cup match, and the last time they beat Qatar in any international fixture was in September of 1994, however their Head Coach, Sami Al Nash, maintains a positive outlook, stating that he’s looking forward to improving the players’ experience in the coming matches.

Yemen vs Qatar will kick off at 8:00pm at Khalifa International Stadium. Tickets can be purchased here
