The final two matches in the second round of the 24th
Arabian Gulf Cup kick-off tonight, with four teams having already settled their
scores yesterday: Qatar came out victorious with an astonishing 6-0
win over Yemen, a team yet to earn 3 points historically, and who have lost their second game in a row so far. Also among
yesterday’s fixtures, Iraq defeated the UAE 2-0 to secure their spot at the top
of Group A with 2 consecutive wins.
Tonight’s fixtures will take us back to Group B, where the first match of the night will kick off with 10-time Gulf Cup
winners Kuwait against defending champions Oman. Kuwait look strong as they
come into the second round, having breezed past Saudi Arabia last Wednesday in
a 3-1 victory putting them at the top of Group B. Oman drew their first match
against Bahrain on the same day, but Erwin Koeman, coach of the Omani side,
ensures that the team is under no pressure ahead of their clash with Kuwait, “I
do not suffer any pressure, on the contrary, everyone is behind the team, we
give our best, we did our best but we did not score, but I am satisfied with
the performance of the players in the game against Bahrain.”
The game is sure to be an exhilarating one, with both sides looking for top spot. Oman has a chance to top Group B
if they come out victorious tonight at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, bringing
them one step closer to defending their title, while a win from Kuwait would virtually
ensure their qualification to the semi-finals. Catch the game tonight at 17:30
