Doha, Qatar- Qatari Triathletes showcased their skills at the Triathlon World Championships in Gold Coast, Australia, on Monday.

The Qatari participation in the championship was noteworthy in both the long-distance speed race, which requires swimming for 750m, riding for 20km and running for 5 km and the Olympic distance race. For the latter, the competitor is required to swim 1,500m, ride 40 km, and end with a 10-km run.

Issa Al Maaedid performed well in the tournament, where he competed in the Olympic distance race and ended with a time of 2:23:53 to reach the 70th place in the world in his age category (25-29 years).

The event apart, a delegation from the Qatar Cycling Federation and Triathlon participated in the International Federation of Triathlon International Conference.

Nasser Al-Mohannadi, vice president of the Qatar federation, and Bernard McColla, director of the age group, were the Qatari delegates at the conference.

“We were able to see the progress made in the sport at the world and the Asian level, here. It definitely is a popular sport,” Al-Mohannadi said.

“We also had discussions and meetings with the presidents of the Asian and international federations and they were very informative,” he added.
