Qatari rider Nasser al-Ghazali rode his bay gelding Quel Homme with poise and aplomb to notch two faultless routines in the fastest times to emerge best in the Big Tour|Table A, Special Two Phases Art. 274.2.5| 130/145cm class of inaugural Al Shaqab Showjumping Competition at the Al Shaqab Equestrian Centre’s Indoor Arena yesterday.
In a large field of riders, where 18 made to the final list, Nasser was very impressive finishing in 40.28secs and 46.72secs respectively and was rewarded QR25,000.
He was followed by national rider Khalid Mohamed al-Emadi on grey gelding Colibri 19. He times being clocking 35.34secs and 48.54. Faleh Suwead al-Ajami was third on Carport. In the Open Class, Table A, Two Phases Art. 274.1.5.3 | 115/125 cm event Mohamed Khalifa al-Baker stood out on his mare Arselina to win the top podium place.
Ghanim Nasser al-Qadi on Numero Uno-T was the runner-up, and Saeed Nasser al-Qadi riding Best of Des Forets finished third. This was the first of two showjumping competitions being conducted by Al Shaqab this year, with the objective being to make it an annual affair. The Al Shaqab Showjumping Competition follows the Longines Hathab – Qatar Equestrian Tour in terms of classes, class-titles, etc. The ensuing competition, scheduled to be held in March, will be different in terms of criteria, categories, class-titles, and challenge levels, organisers said.
