Qatar Superstock 600: Qatari Racers Receive Honours

Ahmed Eltigani

In the second round of the Qatar Superstock 600 races at the Losail International Circuit, two Qatari racers received their honors after winning the first and second races. Saeed Al Sulaiti took the first race by the reigns crossing the finish line in first place, with a time of 25:19.007. In second place that race was Spaniard Julian Simon, and also on the podium was Qatari racer Abdulla Al Qubaisi in third.

Al Sulaiti told the press: "At the beginning, I was fourth in the first lap and I saw that Abdulla and Mashel were pulling away so I decided to overtake Simon. I managed to do it so in the next couple of laps  and I then tried to catch them. In the middle of the race, I lead the race and until the last five laps Abdulla was overtaking me in the straight line but I overtook him in the corner. In the last two laps, everybody struggled with the tyres and I created some gap and won the race"

Mashel Al Naimi came out victorious in the second race of the day, by aiming for a late-push strategy, taking the lead in the last couple of laps to cross the finish line in first place. Winner of the first race Saeed Al Sulaiti looked to have the second race under his belt as he was holding the lead for a majority of the race, but slowed down to fourth place after facing technical issues through a broken suspension.

"I am very happy with the result of this weekend. In the first race, I had still a problem with the front tyre and I could finish only in fourth place. In the second race, I changed a little bit front fork and it works better when I am following the riders rather than leading.

We race this round with a very experienced and professional rider, Julian Simon, that I know very well from Moto2 and this was extra motivation for me. Many thanks to QMMF and LCSC and to Ooredoo for their sponsor," said Al Naimi.

In the current standings, Saeed Al Sulaiti leads with 83 points, Abdulla Al Qubaisi follows closely with 77 points, and Mashel Al Naimi holds third place with 70 points.
