The Qatar Red Crescent celebrates "International Volunteer Day"

The Qatar Red Crescent celebrated "International Volunteer Day" at Katara Cultural Village under the slogan "Thanks to the volunteers", acknowledging the hard work and efforts of individuals who contribute to society to serve humanity to achieve sustainable development through the support of volunteerism.

The celebration was attended by Yusuf bin Muhammad Al-Othman Fakhro, Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs, members of the Qatari Red Crescent Board of Directors and volunteer pioneers in the State of Qatar.

In a speech at the ceremony, Mr. Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of the Qatari Red Crescent, said that it is an occasion to remember the achievements of a full year in which the volunteers help to develop Qatar into a volunteer society.

Al-Hammadi stressed that the Qatari Red Crescent, as the first volunteer civil institution in the State of Qatar, gives special importance to volunteers, by attracting distinguished competencies and active energies, and working to refine its skills and provide them with the necessary expertise, then to use them in organized activities that occupy their free time to serve the local society through various humanitarian work throughout the year.

Mrs. Mona Al-Sulaiti, Executive Director of the volunteering and local development sector in the Qatari Red Crescent, stressed that celebrating the International Day of Volunteering represents a lot for volunteers who worked hard and diligently throughout the time, broadening the horizons for Volunteer work at the Qatari Red Crescent.

At the end of the ceremony, the Secretary-General of the Qatar Red Crescent honored the founders of volunteer work in the Qatar Red Crescent, humanitarian partners in governmental and non-governmental institutions, trainers and volunteer doctors who contributed to the success of the Crescent medical convoys, the owners of charitable initiatives and activities, in addition to a group of Kuwaiti Red Crescent volunteers for their initiative By highlighting the role of the Qatari Red Crescent during the celebration of the Gulf Red Crescent Day.

The ceremony included popular folkloric passages and a presentation of the volunteers' accomplishments and was preceded by a public audience on the beach of Katara. 2019 witnessed tremendous growth in the size of the volunteer base of the Qatari Red Crescent, as they reached 5,000 volunteers offering their commitment and creativity to carry out community projects that give back to society.
