Msheireb was among the many host locations for the annual festivities of the Qatar National Sports Day. The 9th edition of National Sports day was organized by The Qatar Olympic Committee in cooperation with Msheireb Properties and offered the local community a chance to come out and show their sportsmanship and live a healthy lifestyle. The event which was held in Barahat Msheireb was strewn with various stations, each with their own sports activity, with some also having play areas and booths for children. Various sports were represented in the event, giving the local community a wide variety of new activities to try and possibly take up; there were courts for basketball and volleyball, a ring for boxing, and sand pits for long jumps, among many others. Jassim bin Rashid al Buenain, Secretary-General of the QOC, said “This year is an Olympic year, which makes National Sports Day 2020 an even more significant day. The events and activities we have planned with the valuable help of national sports federations and stakeholders will give our community the opportunity to try new sports and enjoy engaging workshops. There will be an opportunity to meet with some of Team Qatar’s star athletes. It is our hope that these world-class athletes will encourage young people to be physically active, and perhaps even inspire the future generation of Qatari athletes."
