Leading national car drivers like QTCC M240 champion Abdulla Al Khelaifi and 2K class runner-up Ibrahim al Abdulghani will pit their talent in an upcoming thrilling online car challenge, which is all set to begin on Sunday (April 5).
The Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) has conceptualised the online racing championship to keep its racing community busy during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Carrying QR49,000 prize money, the event will be contested on Gran Turismo Sport console via PlayStation 4. It will be run three days a week (Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday). The Free Practice will last 10 minutes and will be followed by the 15-minute qualifying. The race duration is 25 minutes.
Omar Aswat has been appointed the Observer for the racing, while Aaron Limbago is the Timekeeping Officer, according to QMMF Executive Director Amro al Hamad.
The competition has drawn an encouraging response as 45 drivers have joined the fray. They have been divided into three groups of 15 each. After nine races in three weeks, 15 drivers with highest accumulated points enter the finals and five best drivers will be rewarded. Points will be awarded during the races only.
The champion will carry home QR15,000 while the runner-up earns QR13,000. The third place is worth QR10,000, the fourth-place winner will pocket QR6,000 and QR5,000 will be given to the fifth-place finisher.
The chosen car for every weekend will be announced two days before the start of the weekly competitions. The race track will be announced to all competitors one night before.
