Aspetar honors staff working to boost healthcare workforce fighting against COVID-19

Aspetar, the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, organised a ceremony for its staff for their efforts during the global COVID-19 pandemic, every person associated with the organisation rose to the occasion, embracing the mission promise as a health delivery system.

The ceremony witnessed presence of Aspetar senior management and attended by the Aspetar medical staff who have been working across Hamad Medical Corporation to boost the healthcare workforce fighting against COVID-19.

The event took place at Aspetar outlined the hospitals important role in the healthcare sectors measures to combat COVID-19. While remaining the common thread among the attendance is a commitment to the health and well-being of the community.

Aspetar is one of the worlds leading specialized orthopedic and sports medicine hospitals and has played a vital role in Qatars COVID-19 response. Aspetar is one of the hospitals on standby to receive COVID-19 patients, should the need arise, and Aspetar medical staff have been working across Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) facilities to boost the healthcare sectors clinical workforce.

During his introductory speech at the ceremony, Acting Chief Executive Officer in Aspetar Dr. Abdulaziz Jaham Al Kuwari said: "I would like to thank all of you, your dedication in times of adversity. It is important that everyone works together to achieve a common goal and I am proud of the role that the team here at Aspetar has played in supporting the Ministry of Public Health throughout the COVID-19 pandemic".

"In addition to converting our inpatient ward in readiness to receive COVID-19 patients and seconding staff to support HMC clinical teams, we have also run many COVID-19 education and awareness campaigns for both general public and sportspeople. To ensure we continue to safely provide services to our regular patients throughout the pandemic we also launched a telemedicine service providing virtual consultations for patients requiring rehabilitation and exercise programmes," added Dr. Al Kuwari.

During the COVID-19 Aspetar has launched a COVID-19 Evidence for Athletes Service which is the first of its kind aimed specifically at athletes, their healthcare teams, coaches and the broader sports community, it provides them with easy access to relevant and reliable information based on the latest scientific evidence.

Moreover, the hospital produced updated guidelines and pathways for the safe return to sports training and competition during COVID-19. A collaboration between MOPH, Hamad Medical Corporation and Aspetar; COVID-19 testing conducted on Qatari athletes aiming to reduce and control the risk of the virus spreading between team members and players, as they return to training and action. It is worth mentioning that Aspetar is now the official medical partner of Qatar Stars League.
