Casamento guides Lekhraib to Doha Cup win

Lekhraib, with Marco Casamento in the saddle, yesterday claimed the Doha Cup triumph with a short-head win in the Conditions for Local Purebred Arabians at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s Al Rayyan Park. The feature race of yesterday’s 10th Race Meeting produced a thrilling action with Barra, helmed by Soufiane Saadi, just finishing short of Mohammed Ghazali-trained 6-year-old Lekhraib in the QR100,000 event. Ronan Thomas rode Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle-trained Sealine to the third position, with the winning side receiving QR57,000.

Team Barra got QR 22,000 for second place, while Team Sealine walked away with 11,000 for third position. Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi presented trophies to the winners of Doha Cup. Also yesterday, the Osama Omer Al Dafea-owned & trained Baker De Saularie was victorious in the Purebred Arabian Conditions, also carrying prize money of QR100,000. Mickael Berto rode the 6-year-old horse to a 1¾-length win in the 1800m run. Gassim Mohammad Ghazali-trained Rajeh, with Saleh Salem Al Marri in the saddle, secured second position while Faleh Bughanaim rode Bsheer to third position.

In Class 3 Thoroughbred Handicap, JP Guillambert astride Shaheen Bin Khalid Shaheen Al Ghanim’s Yaarmen, was fastest recording a 5-length win in 1700m run. Marco Casamento rode Roman Legend to second place in the race, while Jabalaly, with Soufiane Saadi in the saddle, took the third position. Yesterday’s meeting brought an end to an exciting week of races, which also saw Ali Bin Saeed Aljafali Al Nuaimi’s Ajal clinching the Al Wukair Cup with a huge victory with Italian jockey Alberto Sanna.
