QATAR OLYMPIC COMMITTEE, MEMBER ASSOCIATIONS SET TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL SPORT DAY

The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) will celebrate the 8th edition of the National Sport Day (NSD) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education at Al Yarmouk Preparatory School for Boys today with the participation of sports federations, families and children.

The event comes within the framework of cooperation between the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The partnership between the two parties is in many programs, resulting in several projects that focus on the importance of school sports in discovering and polishing talents. This is done through several programs including the Schools Olympic Program.

Commenting on the occasion, Secretary General of QOC, Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain said that they were proud with the NSD initiative, which was a decision taken by the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The decision states that the NSD falls on the second Tuesday of February each year. The goal of the initiative is to emphasise the role of sports in the lives of people in Qatar.

Al Buainan said that the QOC, through its many sports federations, has prepared a host of events as part of its commitment to ensuring the success of NSD, partnered with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to offer a wide variety of sporting events to students.

The QOC Secretary-General praised the great success of NSD in expanding the base of community participation in all different sport categories and expressed his confidence that this years edition will be a huge success, especially after the Qatari national teams historic win of AFC Asian Cup.

He noted that there will be more than 50 different sports events this year, the most prominent of which is the World Championships in Athletics, which will be held in the Middle-East for the very first t

The Qatar Athletics Federation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, will hold competitions for children aged 8-12 years, while the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee (QWSC) will organise various activities including mini games for children aged 5 to 13 in cooperation with Kahramaa.

In cooperation with the Organising Committee of the NSD events in Katara, the QWSC will hold a table tennis skills development camp for players of various age groups from 9:30am to 1:30pm.

The Qatar Taekwondo and Judo team will hold karate exercises on Katara Beach throughout the morning, in addition to a taekwondo show from 12 noon to 3 pm, and a judo from 3 to 5 pm.

Qatar Golf Association will organise a mini Golf event at Katara Beach throughout the day, while Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation will hold the all-day aquathlon swimming event at Katara Corniche.

The Qatar Volleyball Association will organise a beach volleyball event at 8am and volleyball matches in association with Kahramaa.

The Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation will hold tennis events at 9 am for all categories.

Fencing events will be held at 10 am at Qatar Mall and will be attended by Qatari national team fencers. The Clement Academy will organise fencing matches at the Islamic Museum Park at 8 am.

In addition, the Qatar Swimming Association organises an event for young swimmers under the age of 12 at 9 am at the Hamad Aquatics Complex, as well as water polo festival for the those who are under the age of 18, and a diving festival for all age groups.

The Organising Committee of the IAAF World Championships, in cooperation with the Qatar Athletics Federation, will offer athletic activities for children aged 5 to 7 years at Aspire Park.

The QWSC, in cooperation with the Azizia Girls Center, will participate in the women’s gymnastics at the QWSC’s field, in addition to a handball match at the outdoor handball stadium of the committee, football matches, basketball games and table tennis matches in the outdoor arena of the QWSC.

The Azizia Girls Center will organise activities such as cycling for women and children in the outdoor arena of the QWSC along with a healthy food corner and a healthy guidance corner.

It should be noted that ministries and other government agencies, public bodies, institutions and entities, and all entities operating in Qatar, including the private sector, are organising sport activities on the NSD, in which employees will participate and aim to raise awareness about the importance of sport and its role in the lives of individuals and communities.
