Qatar's multi-talented sports star Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah yesterday clinched the bronze medal in Men's Skeet event at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi, India.

At the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, the 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallist, Al Attiyah shot 44 points in the 60-shot final to finish third and clinch his first World Cup medal since 2001.

Jesper Hansen of Denmark won the gold with a near-perfect show, missing just two targets, while Saif bin Futais of the UAE won the silver medal with a score of 51.

Nasser’s compatriot Rashid Hamad finished fifth after qualifying for the final in second spot. He shot 26 targets. Nasser had earlier topped the qualification round, edging Rashid to the second spot in a shoot-off after both scored 123 out of 125 in five rounds.

Al Attiyah expressed his happiness after winning the medal, but said that his ambition was to win the gold. "Participation in these kind of competitions is not an easy thing, especially with the presence of world-class stars, and yet here we are continuing to raise the Qatari flag."

"The presence of our new coach had a huge impact in the success our shooters in the recent tournaments. Rashid Saleh was fifth in the event. This is a great result and important to all of us,"Al Attiyah said.
