FIFA-accredited referee Abdullah Ali Al-Athba will feature as a VAR judge in football matches at the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which will be held on July 21-Aug 7 in the Japanese capital Tokyo.
This is the first time that one of Qatar’s international referees will feature in this event. This presence of Qatari referees comes as an extension of the distinguished participation of Qatar’s international referees in recent years in various local, continental and international competitions.
The FIFA Referees Committee has appointed 99 match officials (25 referees, 50 assistant referees, 20 video match officials and four support referees) from 51 countries to officiate the Olympic Football Tournaments Tokyo 2020.
The referee list also includes assistant referees Mohammad Al Kalaf and Ahmad Al Roalle from Jordan.
