Qatar’s Abderrahman Samba will be looking to impress on home soil as the 400m hurdler goes up against a strong field which includes Rai Benjamin and double Diamond Trophy winner Kyron McMaster today.

Samba, who has a personal best 46.98 secs in his pet event, same as the American Benjamin, will be looking to get back to his rhythm as makes a return to one-lap hurdles after a long break.

Samba’s name was synonymous among top hurdlers last season alongside world champion and Diamond Trophy holder Karsten Warholm last season.

Samba, who wowed the word when he broke the Diamond League record four times in five appearances in 2018, said his aim is to win a medal at the Tokyo Games. “Friday will be a good chance to start my push towards Tokyo. I’m looking out to win a medal in Tokyo,” the bronze winner at the World Championships in Doha two years ago, said during yesterday’s press conference.

“I’ve to be very careful, it’s a big event every four years. I have to be careful and avoid any injuries,” said Samba, who said he is trying his best to make his appearance at the Tokyo Games.

“When I was doing my best in 2018, the competition wasn’t as heated as it’s now. So this competitive spirit is definitely going to push the numbers quite high in the coming days,” he said.

Sambs said it is always a huge personal motivation to compete in Doha.

“Especially during the 2019 Worlds. All the good pressure helped me achieve my dream of a solid performance at home,” Samba said
