QATAR’S RASHED NAWAF TRIUMPHS IN STOCKHOLM

Qatar’s Rashed Nawaf claimed the title of Kungens Kanna & Drottningens Pris Tennis Tournament for Juniors under 14 years held in Stockholm, Sweden recently.

Nawaf defeated Russia’s Yaroslav Demin 6-1, 6-0 in the final to be first Qatari player to win this tournament in its 119 years history.

Nawaf said that he was proud of winning the tournament and stressed he would do whatever it takes to follow his dream and raise high Qatar’s flag in international tournaments.

Nawaf started off by had defeating Nicolas Philibert of Great Britain 6-2 6-4 and continued his impressive showing to thrash Croatia’s Patrik Jurina 6-4, 6-2 in the second round.

In the third round, Nawaf stunned Albert Saar of Sweden 6-2, 6-2 before beating Maxim Zhukov in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Nawaf defeated Serbia’s Aleksa Pisaric 7-5, 4-6, 6-1.

Nawaf had also won singles and doubles titles at GCC U-14 Tournament held in Oman and the Arab Tournament in Tunisia.
