FIVB President meets Sheikh Joaan, other sports chiefs

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça Filho welcomed several leaders from the world of sport to Ariake Arena and Shiokaze Park, the Tokyo 2020 volleyball and beach volleyball venues, during the final week of volleyball action at the Olympic Games.

In particular, the FIVB President met with Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani and Secretary-General Jassim Rashid Al Buenain following the Qatari beach volleyball duo of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan’s semi-final match against the ROC’s Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Oleg Stoyanovskiy.

The FIVB President also held a meeting with World Athletics President Sebastian Coe at the Ariake Arena where they were able to discuss the critical role of sport in the world’s post-COVID-19 recovery, as well as the success of the volleyball and athletics events at Tokyo 2020.

Meanwhile, Acting President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) President and IOC Executive Board Member, Dr Robin Mitchell, and IOC Member Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul from Thailand were both able to enjoy some electrifying beach volleyball action at Shiokaze Park.

In addition, the FIVB President met with the President and COO of world-renowned sports brand ASICS, Yasuhito Hirota, and ASICS Senior General Manager, Sports Marketing Shinobu Oya at the Olympic beach volleyball venue. ASICS Corporation is a global designer and manufacturer of sporting goods including performance athletic footwear, apparel and accessories.
