Qatar excels at World Parachuting Championships, wins gold

Qatar’s parachute jump team, affiliated to the Qatar Air Sports Committee at the Joint Special Forces, has won the gold medal in the canopy formation four-way rotation competition at the World Parachuting Championships, hosted by Russia in the Tanay region with the participation of 30 countries.

The Qatar team achieved first place with 151 points, and comprised Abdullah Hani, Saeed al-Kuwari, Hassan al-Malki, Ali al-Marri, and Saleh al-Kuwari, Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.

The Russian team won the silver medal with 147 points, while the bronze medal was won by the Belarusian team with 135 points.

All eight rounds of the competition took place yesterday due to the expected bad weather today.

The competition was originally scheduled to take place over the next two days.

Qatar also won the silver medal in the canopy formation two-way sequential competition, where Team A finished with 220 points, while the French A team won gold with 243 points, and the French B team claimed bronze with 194 points.

HE Major-General Commander of the Joint Special Forces and Chairman of the Qatar Air Sports Committee, Hamad bin Abdullah al-Fetais al-Marri, said in press statements on this occasion that he dedicated this achievement to the wise leadership and the Qatari people.

He noted that winning the gold medal for the first time in the history of the four-way rotation competition was a great and important achievement, and expressed thanks to the members of the team and wishing them more success in upcoming tournaments.

For his part, Vice-Chairman of the Qatar Air Sports Committee, Abdullah Hamad al-Athba, said: "We dedicate this achievement to the Qatari people. In this tournament, we have won three medals – gold, silver and bronze.

“The gold came from the canopy formation four-way rotation team, silver from the two-way sequential team, and bronze from the quadruple cohesion team.”

He added that this achievement is the result of great efforts over several years, and "we have crowned this effort with gold".
