The State of Qatar will host the World Table Tennis (WTT) Star Contender championship from Sept. 20 to 25, and the Asian Table Tennis Championships from Sept. 28 to Oct. 5, which qualifies for the World Table Tennis Championships in China next year.

The supreme organizing committee of the two tournaments, headed by President of Qatar Table Tennis Association Khalil Al Mohannadi had discussed during a meeting of its members the most important arrangements, as well as the requirements of representatives of the sub-committees. The committee stressed the necessity of completing all the preparations and speeding up the pace of work so that the two tournaments emerge in the best way from an organizational point of view.

The organizing committee, which continues to meet regularly in the coming days, stressed the need to ensure health requirements in accordance with a number of strict measures that demonstrated unprecedented success during Qatar's hosting of the World Table Tennis Championships and the Asian Qualifiers for the Olympic Games, which were held in February and March in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health, in order to ensure the highest standards of brilliance and success during these successive events.

The committee discusses in its continuous meetings with the Ministry of Public Health the latest medical equipment and preparations for Qatar to host these continental and international sporting events.

The President of Qatar Table Tennis Association, who is also the First Vice-President of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and Asian Table Tennis Union, underlined that Qatar's hosting of many continental and international table tennis tournaments this year is important and will enhance the confidence of the International Federation in Qatar's organizational capabilities, especially with the continuing spread of the coronavirus pandemic throughout the world.

Al Mohannadi said that the Asian championship will see a big participation as 34 countries have confirmed their participation so far, which explains its importance, taking into account the continuing global health conditions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As for the WTT Star Contender championship, Al Mohannadi indicated that hosting the championship was not part of the program for this year, especially since Doha hosted the first edition of the tournament last March, but the impressive organizational success made the International Federation ask Qatar to host this edition. After consulting the Qatar Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Public Health, it was approved to host this tournament which will witness the participation of more than 200 professional table tennis players.

Al Mohannadi revealed that the electoral general assembly of the AFC will be convened on the sidelines of the Asian Championship to select the president and members of the Executive Office and the Board of Directors. He pointed out that the State of Qatar enjoys great confidence from the International Federation and the continental federations.
