Turkish Airlines signed a sponsorship agreement with the Ooredoo Ride of Champions, Qatar’s flagship Cycling event.

The partnership will see the global air carrier offering logistical support and prizes to the participants during the third edition of the event.

The Ooredoo Ride of Champions will flag off at the Ceremonial Court of Qatar Foundation tomorrow.

The airline which operates flights to more than 300 global destinations, will offer discounted and free tickets as prizes for participants and volunteers on the day of the event.

A Turkish Airlines Doha-Istanbul return ticket is also up for grabs through a social media contest. Users will need to follow the official accounts of Ride of Champions, then like, share and tag their friends on the competition’s post for a chance to win the amazing prize.

The Ride of Champions is Qatar’s biggest mass participation cycling event. It is organised by Qatar Cyclists in association with Qatar National Tourism Council.

This year, more than 1500 cyclists are expected to take part in the event which offers rides for all ages and levels of experience.

The family ride will give parents and children over the age of 9 a chance to participate in a 5.8 km tour inside the premises of Qatar Foundation, while children aged between 3-8 years can take part in a fun 1-km race at the green spine. Three road rides will also be organized with various distances; 137.5 km, 78 km and 48 km.

“Turkish Airlines is proud to be the official airline partner of The Ooredoo Ride of Champions,” said Mehmed Zingal, General Manager of Turkish Airlines in Doha.

“This partnership reflects the role of Turkish Airlines in sponsoring the most important international sporting events, echoing our belief in bringing people together. As the airline that flies to more countries in the world, we are delighted to be able to bring international participants from around the world to Doha, and we look forward to celebrating together at Qatar Foundation,” Zingal said.

The popularity of cycling in Qatar has significantly increased during the past few years, especially after the country successfully hosted the 2016 UCI World Road Championships. The rapid growth can be seen through the constantly increasing number of participants in weekly community cycling rides organised by Qatar Cyclists.

Dr. Abulazziz Al Kuwari, President of Qatar Cyclists said:  “We are delighted to reach this deal with Turkish Airlines to support the 2019 Ooredoo Ride of Champions. A partnership with a global brand like Turkish Airlines will further promote the event on all levels. We would like to thank them for their efforts, and we are looking forward to another milestone in the history of this event.”

Ali Al Kuwari, Ooredoo Ride of Champions Director said: “We would like to welcome Turkish Airlines as our official airline partner. The prizes they offer will attract more participants and enhance their experience during our big festival of cycling at Qatar Foundation. We invite everyone to join us on Friday and enjoy an amazing day of sport, fun and excitement.”
