Umm Salal face Al Shamal in Round 3 (Group A) of the 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup at the Al Khor Stadium on Sunday. The kick-off is at 17:35.
Al Rayyan, Al Ahli and Al Wakrah are the other teams in Group A.
Umm Salal, coached by Sergio Farias, will be keen to win, having lost big-time (0-5) to Al Wakrah in the opening round.
Umm Salal, who were not in action in Round 2, are lying at the bottom of the standings and have yet to open their account.
The Orange Fortress’ campaign in last season’s Ooredoo Cup had ended in the group stage as they finished fifth in Group B.
Meanwhile, Al Shamal are on a high, having defeated Al Wakrah 2-1 in Round 2. Hicham Jadrane-coached side had opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw with against Al Ahli.
Al Shamal are second in Group A with four points, the same as Al Ahli but behind on goal difference. Al Ahli have a goal difference of +2 as against Al Shamal’s +1.
Umm Salal have the likes of Ali Ferydoon, Omar Yahya, Ali Mohammed, Ismail Ibrahim and Atef Mohammed and Al Shamal consist of Mohammed El Sayed, Abdulaziz Metwaly, Majed Mohammed, Nasser Al Nasr and Fahad Waad.
Meanwhile, Al Wakrah face Al Rayyan in Round 3 (Group B) of the 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup at the Qatar SC Stadium on Sunday. The kick-off is at 19:45.
Al Ahli, Umm Salal and Al Shamal are the other teams in Group A.
Al Wakrah are third in the group with three points. The Blue Wave had beaten Umm Salal 5-0 in Round 1, but crashed to a 1-2 defeat to Al Shamal in Round 2.
Al Wakrah, coached by Spaniard Marquez Lopez, have a goal difference of +4 (six goals for and two against).
They are in a good position in the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League (sixth).
Al Rayyan, who were not in action in the opening round, started their campaign in Round 2, but lost 0-2 to Al Ahli.
The Lions, under Frenchman Laurent Blanc, would hope to settle into their stride sooner and target full points against Al Wakrah.
Al Rayyan, who fielded a group of youngsters against Al Ahli, have the advantage of having played one match less than Al Wakrah.
