Gulf giants Saudi Arabia were stunned this evening in
their Group C match against Jordan at the Education City Stadium after the game
ended 1-0 for Jordan.
Saudi Arabia came into the match with a new team
consisting of an almost entirely youth team, with all but two players being
born after 1999 as the national team rests its main players after a busy
schedule this year.
Saudi Arabia
hoped for a strong start in the tournament but Jordan overpowered the
youngsters with an endless barrage of opportunities, including one disallowed
goal in the first half due to offside after VAR review.
The first goal was scored by Mahmoud Al Mardi, who due
to defensive error was gifted the ball in the box, immediately going for goal
and deflecting off of Saudi Arabia's Al Dawsari to send the keeper the wrong
way and find the net.
Jordan leaves the Education City Stadium with a deserved three
points and is set to play Morocco on December 4th, while Saudi Arabia hopes to
grasp a win against Palestine.
