The first match in the FIFA Arab Cup 2021 quarterfinals saw
Tunisia face off against Oman in a high-stakes game that will dictate who moves
on to the semifinals. The match took place at the Education City Stadium and
ended 2-1 in Tunisia’s favor.
The opening goal was scored in the 17th minute by
Seifeddine Jaziri with a header to bring his team ahead and gain some much-needed
early motivation. Oman’s Arshad Al Alawi equalized the game in the 66th
minute, with a masterfully placed strike miles out of the box allowing Oman one
more chance to clinch the win. Tunis however, scored less than 3 minutes after,
in the 69th minute with a header from Youssef Msakni putting
pressure on the Omanis to equalize before the final whistle. Oman fought with
all its might to equalize but could not find the back of the net, ultimately losing
the game 1-0.
Tunisia now solidifies its place in the semi-finals and
will take on the winner in tomorrow's match between Egypt and Jordan. Their semi-final fixture will take place on the 15th of December at the 974
Stadium.
