Al Rayyan defeated Al Shamal 2-1 in Week 11 of the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Wednesday.
Hashem Ali (24th minute) and Yacine Brahimi (41st minute) scored for Al Rayyan. Moaz Yahya pulled one back for Al Shamal in the 68th minute.
Al Rayyan now have 12 points with their third victory, while Al Shamal remained on nine points after suffering their sixth defeat.
The match saw Al Rayyan miss a penalty kick taken by Brahimi in the 39th minute.
The match came live especially after Al Rayyan took the lead through Hashem off Khaled Muftah’s cross. Al Shamal started pressing hard thereafter and the rivals responded with a stronger attack that resulted in the second goal.
In between came Al Rayyan’s penalty, but Al Shamal goalkeeper Marwan Sharif blocked Brahimi.
However, Brahimi made amends a couple of minutes later by netting their second goal.
Al Shamal appeared better offensively in the second half and were closest to scoring, but missed more than one opportunity. Al Rayyan goalkeeper Saoud Al Hajri made some saves.
Al Shamal finally succeeded in finding the net. Off a quick attack, Moaz found himself in scoring position as Al Hajri got beaten.
Al Shamal pressed hard for an equalizer, in vain.
Meanwhile, Al Rayyan got a penalty kick, but it was cancelled by VAR.
