QSAA holds seminar on damaging effects of doping on athletes

The Qatar Shooting and Archery Association (QSAA) held a lecture series on the harmful effects of steroids use with the participation of Qatar’s athletes.Qatar Olympic Committee’s Al Adaam Youth Council aims to encourage and develop youth participation in sport in Qatar.

At QSAA’s shooting range in Lusail, experts and spe-cialists from the Qatar Anti-Doping Committee, repre-sented by Dr. Afif Al Mansour, Hiam Abdulaziz Halil and Al Anoud Zayed Al Habashi, emphasised the effects and dangers doping can have on a young athlete’s mind and body to the members of the National Teams Committee, coaches and Al Adaam shooting athletes.

Dr. Afif Al Mansour’s lecture focused on how steroids use can make a person feel energetic for a while, but the after effects are clearly visible soon and can have devastating results.Dr. Al Mansour described stimulants including energy drinks as serious pests that threaten human health.Mrs. Hiam Abdulaziz Halil spoke on steroids’ effects on the brain and how it slows down functions eventually affecting a human body’s nervous system.

The Qatar Anti-Doping Committee asked athletes to focus on proper nutrition, besides instilling in them good values and virtuous morals to help them emerge as integrated sport personalities.
