The Peninsula

Al Sadd will take on Qatar SC today in a postponed match from Round 13 of the QNB Stars League (QSL), hoping to consolidate their top spot with a victory.

The match will kick off at the Qatar SC Stadium.

The match was postponed following Al Sadd’s request after a number of their players were infected with the coronavirus.

The result of the match will have strong bearing on both teams. Al Sadd are cruising towards retaining the title, so they would not want to drop points, while Qatar SC would be keen to complete a hat-trick of victories, having beaten Umm Salal and Al Wakrah in the previous rounds.

Al Sadd have 46 points from 15 victories and one draw from 16 matches, with another match in hand (against Al Rayyan). The Wolves, coached by Spaniard Javi Gracia, are the only unbeaten side so far.

Al Sadd, who have a seven-point difference over closest challengers Al Duhail, have a goal difference of +45 (63 goals for and 18 against).

On the other hand, Qatar SC are placed eighth with 22 points from 17 matches (six victories, four draws and seven defeats).

The Kings, under the tutelage of Moroccan Youssef Safri, have a goal difference of -2 (19 goals for and 21 against).

Both Al Sadd and Qatar SC are on a high, having reached the quarterfinals of Amir Cup, beating Muaither SC (1-0) and Al Shamal (2-1) respectively on February 13.

Both teams have standout players in their ranks. A thrilling contest is on the cards. Al Sadd had beaten Qatar SC 3-1 in the first leg.
