Minister of Sports and Youth, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, will continue to lead Qatar's efforts in organizing major football tournaments following the restructuring of the Qatar Football Association’s (QFA) organizing body. The QFA, on Sunday, rebranded the committee as the "Local Organizing Committee for Football Events."

This committee, previously responsible for delivering the highly praised 2023 AFC Asian Cup, will now oversee all major football events hosted by Qatar in the coming years. Jassim Abdulaziz Al Jassim, CEO of the AFC Asian Cup 2023, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the newly restructured body.

The QFA announced that the expanded committee will now manage various international football tournaments over the next decade. These include the 2024 Intercontinental Cup, the Arab Cup in 2025, 2029, and 2031, as well as the FIFA U-17 World Cup tournaments from 2025 to 2029.

“This reformation broadens the committee’s responsibilities, ensuring the world-class organization of several prestigious competitions. It underscores Qatar’s dedication to cementing its status as a global hub for football,” the QFA said in a statement.

The committee's first major task will be delivering the 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup, including three matches and the final scheduled for December 18. This tournament, announced last year, will replace the annual Club World Cup, which will now occur every four years starting in 2025 with 32 participating teams.
