Lee Carsley, newly appointed interim manager to the England National team suffers a staggering loss against Greece but redeems himself with an impressive 3-1 victory against Finland.

After a devastating loss in the Euro finals, Gareth Southgate departed from England’s national squad in July. Lee Carsley was appointed as his replacement and interim coach ahead of the UEFA Nations League. The competition consists of friendly matches between national teams usually taking place during international breaks.

After a brilliant start as head coach beating Ireland 2-0 away from home, Lee Carsley suffered a 2-1 defeat against Greece on the 10th of October in Wembley Stadium. This loss marked England's first defeat at home in four years. After a quiet first half with no goals, Vangelis Pavlidis scores in the 49th minute putting Greece in the lead. England struck back in the 87th minute just three minutes before the full-time whistle. After conceding another goal to Vangelis Pavlidis in the fourth minute of additional time giving the Greeks a 2-1 victory, a damaging loss for England under Carsley’s guidance.

Just three days later, on the 13th of October, Carsley bounced back with an astonishing 3-1 win against Finland, redeeming his status as a Coach. The game was off to a good start with a Goal from Manchester City’s Jack Grealish assisted by Angel Gomes in the 18th minute. Things were starting to look promising for Lee Carsley as the first half ended with England in the lead. As the second half was commencing, Finland conceded two goals from England by Alexander-Arnold in the 74th minute and Declan Rice in the 84th minute. The match finished 3-1  after Arttu Hoskonen scored a consolation goal for Finland in the 87th minute.

England are set to play next month in the UEFA Nations League group F action, facing  Greece and Ireland.
