Former Al Rayyan captain Rodrigo Tabata joined Al Sadd on a one-year deal, the Wolves said on their Twitter account on Tuesday.

The 39-year old former Qatar international had opted against renewing his contract with Al Rayyan when the Qatar Stars League resumed last week after a four-month interruption owing to coronavirus and will now have a chance to feature in the AFC Champions League in a team coached by Xavi Hernandez.

Though Tabata is past his prime, he still has plenty to offer in attack for Sadd, and Xavi would be happy to feature him alongside the likes new signing Santi Cazorla, Nam Tae Hee, Akram Afif and Baghdad Bounedjah.

The former Santos and Besiktas star was with Rayyan since 2011, winning a Qatar Stars League title, an Emir Cup and three Sheikh Jassim Cups, but he has a Sheikh Jassim Cup and Emir Cup titles with Sadd as well, whom he joined on loan in 2014.

Meanwhile, Sadd also renewed the contract of Qatar international midfielder Salem Al Hajri until 2023.
